Prescribed in cases of malfunctioning of the enteral system, parenteral nutrition covers the energy requirements of patients and corrects deficiencies in micronutrients. Administered intravenously, a large number of clinical situations require its use such as post-operation, Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis and cancer.
Packaged in PP multi-chamber bags, ready-to-use nutritional preparations facilitate treatment and can be given by medical staff straight away after prescription. They are also used in cases of hospitalisation at home or maintaining people at home.
Despite their multiple advantages, the standard formulas are not always suitable for all patients, especially in paediatrics. Between premature babies and adolescents, nutritional needs are very different and vary according to age, weight and the clinical situation. Parenteral nutrition preparations are made up on a case by case basis by hospital pharmacies and are placed in EVA sterile bags.
